Fireworks Craft and New Year's Eve Story Time

12/30/2020

Happy New Year to our Child Development Program (CDP) family! We know that many of our little friends have an early bedtime and will miss the countdown from 2020 to 2021. So to include them in the celebration, we are sharing a New Year’s Eve craft that we found at fantasticfunandlearning.com. We think it’s sure to get them in the spirit and feel included in the big event. As an added bonus, we're sharing a book for even more New Year’s Eve fun!

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Dark Paper- construction paper works fine, but cardstock would be even better.

  • DIY fireworks paintbrushes made from pipe cleaner. (See paintbrush tutorial here.)

  • Sparkly and metallic paints. Or, use non-metallic paints and sprinkle with glitter while waiting for the paint to dry.

To begin, make the paint brushes by folding several pipe cleaners in half and looping them together. (See easy tutorial here.) Dip the “paintbrushes” in paint. Try rolling the “paintbrush” onto the paper instead of using them like a stamp and pressing down. This makes the most “firework-like” resemblance. In order to achieve more realistic fireworks, avoid using too much paint as well. Allow to dry, or for more sparkle, sprinkle on some glitter and shake off excess. Wait to dry.

And of course, we have a story to go along with the craft...

This week, we’re reading The Night Before New Year’s by Natasha Wing and illustrated by Amy Wummer. In the vein of 'Twas the Night Before Christmas, Wing tells the story of sparkly streamers, festive party hats, too many sweet treats, and little kids determined to stay up until midnight. It’s a fun story in rhyme about the turning of the calendar. Maybe consider an early countdown before bedtime to help your little one feel part of the big night. (But if you keep them up, we won’t tell! ;)

Well, CDP family, we made it! Thank you for being part of this unforgettable year with us. We wish you nothing but good times and happy memories made in the year ahead.

We will see you at school next week, where we will begin the Admissions process for 2021. Admissions is now open. If you have any friends interested in applying to any of our classes, please have them email admissions@cdpkid.net.

Happy New Year!
